Chinese Style Stir-fry Swiss Chard

Ingredients


  • 1 bunch of fresh Swiss chard, washed and chopped (alternatively boc choy, Napa cabbage or other greens) approx. 500g

  • 2 tablespoons canola oil, sesame oil or peanut oil)

  • 1-2tbsp corn starch

  • Sauce:

    5tbsp soy sauce

    2btsp oyster or teriyaki sauce

    2tsp sugar

    1tbsp sesame seeds

    1-2 gloves garlic, minced

    1 tbsp ginger, minces


  • optional: 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste), chopped cilantro

  • Salt and pepper to taste


Instructions


  1. Prepare the Swiss Chard: Start by thoroughly washing the Swiss chard to remove any dirt or grit. Chop the leaves and stems into bite-sized pieces.

  2. Heat the Wok: In a large wok or skillet, heat the oil of your choice over medium-high heat until shimmering.

  3. Stir-Fry the Swiss Chard: Add the chopped Swiss chard to the wok. Stir-fry for 3-5 minutes, or until the leaves are wilted and the stems are tender-crisp.

  4. Add Seasoning: Premix the sauce in a separate bowl. Then add the sauce to the wok. Stir well to ensure the Swiss chard is evenly coated. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  5. Thicken as needed: Add cornstarch (dissolved in 1tbsp of water) to thicken the sauce if needed.

  6. Finish and Serve: Remove from heat. Serve over rice immediately and garnish with cilantro, red pepper flakes or sesame seeds.
